Three Swans Studios - New Design Announcement/Fall 2002
November, 2002 Three Swans Studios is very pleased to announce the addition of two new quilt designs to its Collection:
· Bordered Rose (TSS 2018): this design of a single rose with buds springs from the ever-present inspiration of our gardens, and includes corner borders that not only frame the rose but also make a nice secondary motif if blocks are joined together
· Bordered Lily (TSS 2019): gorgeous day lilies blooming in our gardens throughout the summer inspired this design, and, as with the bordered rose, the corner borders form a nice secondary motif if blocks are joined together
The Collection
Our Collection now totals 20 stained-glass reverse appliqué designs, ranging from the naturalistic, to the geometric, mythological & decorative. The naturalistic designs – like the Dragonfly, Pisces, Harvest, Wild Roses, Sunflower, Vineyard, Woodland Orchid, Bordered Rose & Bordered Lily – are uniquely stylized but remain true to their subject matter, while many of the geometric designs – like the Crystals, Quartet, North Star Tea Cozy & Starfire Banner – have a spiritual quality about them. With the decorative designs, we venture into interlacing motifs – Knotwork I & Single Strand – and touch on crazyquilt with our Victorian Tea Cozy & Stocking designs. The mythological patterns – like the Dragon, Phoenix & New Dawn (Angel) – are strikingly bold. Theses designs tend to be quite large and elaborate, and will provide a welcome challenge for more experienced quilt makers. That said, all of our patterns come with fully illustrated, step-by-step instructions on the stained-glass reverse appliqué technique to guide you through the entire process. All our patterns are also drawn with a broken line down the center of the stained glass leading lines which can be used as a guide for a bias binding technique. Of course, they can also be used as designs for traditional hand appliqué.

About Three Swans Studios
Three Swans Studios is comprised of two sisters – Joan Bouwmeester and Debbie Bouwmeester-Fasek – who are situated in different parts of Canada and come from quite different artistic backgrounds. Joan lives in Ottawa, Ontario and is trained as a Visual Artist (painting & drawing). Prior to Three Swans Studios, in addition to making her own art, Joan worked as an Heraldic Artist and Calligrapher. Debbie is in Edmonton, Alberta, and is a Fibre Artist. In her own work, Debbie has extensive experience in the reverse appliqué technique, and in the area of embroidery has focused on experimental interpretive stitching and colour applications. We formed Three Swans Studios to pool our diverse talents to bring you only the most delightful quilt patterns imaginable.
